I am a Professor of Philosophy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Before joining UNC, I was a Faculty Fellow in Philosophy at NYU. I did my graduate work at Oxford (B.Phil., 2010) and Yale (Ph.D., 2015).

My philosophical interests are broad, but much of my current work is in applied epistemology. I work on conceptual and normative questions about topics like deference to experts, partisanship, media consumption, political disagreement, and lay beliefs about science. Most of my prior work was on more abstract questions in epistemology, the theory of rationality, and metaethics, and I also continue to be interested in and work in these areas. For further details of my published and ongoing work, see my research page.

I also serve as Director of Graduate Studies for the philosophy department. With Chris Howard and Maggie Shea, I organize the annual Chapel Hill Normativity Workshop, and I am current the epistemology section editor for Philosophy Compass.
